Bangkok Cats Promise Exponential Growth, Request More Cardboard
At Bangkok’s imaginary feline business annex, startup cats pitch box subscriptions, laser-pointer analytics and responsible zoomies.
Cat parody / satire: The feline companies, quotations and events below are fictional. The business event described in the final section is real.
Bangkok Cats Promise Exponential Growth, Request More Cardboard
BANGKOK — The city’s most ambitious cats arrived at a riverside business hall on Tuesday with polished whiskers, laminated badges and one irresistible proposition: what if ordinary household inconvenience could be transformed into a subscription?
Leading the delegation was Meowtrix Ventures, a two-cat startup whose flagship service, BoxPlus, delivers an empty cardboard box every month in one of three tiers: Standard, Premium and “I Have Claimed This, Leave.” Founder Manee Whiskerchai said the company’s advantage was its disciplined focus on a problem humans had somehow failed to understand.
“People keep putting products inside the boxes,” Manee told an imaginary panel of investors. “We remove the product and preserve the value.”
The pitch formed part of the unofficial Feline Exponential Annex, a fictional gathering convened after Bangkok’s cats heard that thousands of entrepreneurs were discussing commerce, technology and innovation at ICONSIAM. No cats were actually admitted to the real conference under the names printed on their homemade badges, including “Regional Head of Naps” and “Senior Vice President, Things Knocked Off Tables.”
Competition was intense. Siamese Systems demonstrated an AI assistant trained to predict when a human would open a laptop, then occupy the keyboard 1.8 seconds earlier. The company called this “anticipatory workflow alignment.” Observers called it sitting down.
Another exhibitor, Orange Tabby Logistics, unveiled a last-metre delivery network in which parcels travel efficiently across Bangkok before being abandoned just beyond the customer’s reach. Chief operations cat Somchai insisted the model reduced emissions by encouraging people to get up and retrieve things themselves.
At the Applied Toys & Tools stage, engineers presented a laser-pointer productivity platform. Its dashboard showed excellent engagement, extraordinary retention and no measurable completion of any task. The founders nevertheless projected rapid expansion into regional markets, provided somebody replaced the batteries.
The day’s sharpest debate concerned sustainable growth. Veteran investor Auntie Pla warned founders that scaling too quickly could exhaust finite resources such as tuna, shelf space and the patience of apartment managers. She recommended “responsible zoomies”: short bursts of expansion followed by a restorative period under the sofa.
By mid-afternoon, the fictional annex had generated 87 partnerships, 14 memoranda of understanding and one territorial disagreement over a tote bag. Analysts noted that none of these arrangements was legally binding because every signature consisted of a paw print and a small smear of pâté.
Still, the founders left optimistic. Manee announced that BoxPlus had closed a seed round consisting of three actual seeds, which would be returned because they were not tuna. The company will now focus on its core mission: proving that exponential growth is possible if the chart is drawn with yarn and nobody asks what the vertical axis means.
The real news behind the joke
Trade Exponential Fest 2026 is a real one-day business event taking place on 22 September from 9am to 5pm at ICONSIAM Hall in Bangkok. It is organised by Thailand’s International Institute for Trade and Development under the theme of commerce, technology and innovation for an exponential future.
Bangkok Post reported that the programme includes more than 40 business leaders and innovation experts, two main stages focused on strategy and applied technology, and 50 exhibition booths. A Pattaya Mail report attributed to NNT said organisers expected more than 3,000 participants and described more than 40 sessions, over 40 speakers and more than 50 exhibitors. Those figures belong to the real event; Meowtrix Ventures, BoxPlus and every quoted cat above are inventions.
